Prof. Edmund Lam’s SPLASH Project for Microplastic Detection Won the Silver Medal at IEIG 2024

April 26, 2024

An interdisciplinary team led by Professor Edmund Lam in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) has developed an innovative solution to address the environmental concern of microplastic pollution. Their SPLASH system is a compact, portable and cost-effective imaging system for fieldwork microplastic assessment, which integrates the advanced holographic imaging, polarization sensing, and machine learning methods. It won the Silver Medal at the 49th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva (IEIG 2024).
