HKU Successfully Hosted the Workshop on Frontiers of Image Science and Visual Computing 2025

The Workshop on Frontiers of Image Science and Visual Computing 2025, organised by Prof. Evan Y. PENG from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) at The University of Hong Kong (HKU), and HKU Computational Imaging and Mixed Representation Laboratory (WeLight Lab), and co-organised by the Faculty of Engineering, was successfully held on April 15, 2025, in HKU Main Library.

The workshop aims to encourage innovative spirits, promote excellence and sustain quality, strive for improvement, and connect communities. It attracted over 150 students, researchers and industry professionals, and featured a line-up of esteemed leading experts around the world. These experts engaged in enlightening presentations and discussions on cutting-edge research and insights in the fields of neuroscience, imaging science and visual computing. It has had a significant impact, attracting widespread attention from various sectors, including the investment and industrial communities.

Lastly, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all speakers, attendees, the team in HKU WeLight Lab, the Faculty and the Department for making this event meaningful and insightful!

Prof. Yinqiang ZHENG from The University of Tokyo (UTokyo) delivered the workshop “Security Concerns on Visual AI beyond RGB Domain”.

Prof. Hongzhi WU from the Zhejiang University (ZJU) delivered the workshop “Differentiable Acquisition of Appearance and Geometry”.

Prof. Tianfan XUE from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) delivered the workshop “Computational Photography in the Age of Foundation and Generative Models”.

Prof. Hongbo FU from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) introduced “ACM SIGGRAPH Asia 2025 Pitching”.

Prof. Yuanmu YANG from the Tsinghua University (THU) delivered the workshop “Flat-Optics for Imaging with Extended Information”.

Prof. Wenzheng CHEN from the Peking University (PKU) delivered the workshop “Open-World Rain Simulator”.

Prof. Ping TAN from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) delivered the workshop “Towards Better Gaussian Splatting: Enhancing Geometry and Volumetric Rendering”.

Prof. Seung-Hwan BAEK from the Pohang University of Science and Technology (POSTECH) delivered the talk “Computational Imaging for Graphics, Vision, Robotics, and Science”.

Prof. Kaibin HUANG, Head of the HKU Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, delivered closing remarks for the event.
