Welcome Our Visiting Professor (Wolfgang Heidrich) at HKU Engineering

November 10, 2025

We are thrilled to host, again, the world-leading researcher in Computer Graphics & Computational Imaging, Prof. Wolfgang Heidrich, joining us as a Visiting Professor, hosted by our faculty member Prof. Evan Y. Peng. Notably, Prof. Heidrich was holding the Hong Kong STEM Visiting Professorship in an earlier year, and has been actively interacting with HKU faculty members for several years, meriting many research and knowledge outputs at HKU.

Prof. Heidrich was presented the NAI Fellow, Optica Fellow, AAIA Fellow, IEEE Fellow, and Eurographics Fellow, as well as the ACM SIGGRAPH Achievement Award and Test-of-time Award Winner. He was also serving the ACM SIGGRAPH Asia Technical Papers Chair and IEEE ICCP Program Chair.

Since 2014, Prof. Heidrich has been affiliated with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) CS and ECE. Before that, he had been a faculty member at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Computer Science (2000-2018). Prof. Heidrich is best known for his work in developing the high dynamic range (HDR) imaging and displays, which served as the basis for the technology behind Brightside Technologies, which was acquired by Dolby, and then later on (as part of the Dolby vision) turned into one of the core technical solutions for commercial displays.
