HKU Engineering Research Team Led by Prof. Tao LIU Wins Best Paper Award at IET International Conference on APSCOM 2025

We are pleased to inform that an engineering research team led by Prof. Tao LIU, and Dr. Zelin LIU (research postgraduate alumnus (2025), supervised by Prof. Tao LIU), from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, The University of Hong Kong (HKU), has won the Best Paper Award for their best paper titled “Fast Modeling of Consecutive Load Redistribution Attacks for Large-Scale Power Systems” at The 13th IET International Conference on Advances in Power System Control, Operation and Management (APSCOM 2025), organised by The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

In their work, the team developed a fast algorithm to address consecutive load redistribution attacks in power systems. Instead of repeatedly solving a mixed-integer linear program before each attack, their method solves the MILP only once and then efficiently derives subsequent attack vectors by parameterising and intersecting boundary constraints from the initial solution. Under typical operating assumptions, the approach guarantees global or local optimality while reducing computation time by orders of magnitude.

The conference aims to address a wide range of challenges faced by the power and energy industry around the world. It is an excellent platform to get global scholars’ innovative ideas presented as high-quality papers will be selected and recommended for publication in IET INSPEC and IEEE Xplore databases.

Congratulations to Prof. Tao LIU and Dr. Zelin LIU on their outstanding achievements!
