Congratulations to Dr. Jixiang JING, a PhD student who graduated in 2024, supervised by Prof. Zhiqin CHU from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, The University of Hong Kong (HKU), who has won the 2025 Young Scientist Award in engineering science by the Hong Kong Institution of Science, for his project “Scalable Production of Ultraflat and Ultraflexible Diamond Membrane”.
In his work, he developed a revolutionary technique for the fabrication of diamond membranes at scale. Compared to the expensive, time-consuming, and size-constrained conventional technologies of the past three decades, his new technology can produce an inch-scale diamond wafer in less than ten seconds, providing unprecedented efficiency and scale-up capabilities.
