Biography

Yanmin Zhu is a Presidential Research Assistant Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, The University of Hong Kong, HK S.A.R, China. Before joining HKU in 2024, she was a postdoctoral associate in Tadesse Lab working with Prof. Loza F. Tadesse, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, U.S.A. in 2023 and 2024. She received her Ph.D. degree from The University of Hong Kong and MSc. degree in Optics and Photonics from Imperial College London, U.K., BSc. degree from KU Leuven, Belgium and Southwest Jiaotong University, China. Her research focuses on computational imaging, artificial intelligence, and intelligent diagnosis. She has made contributions to solving intelligent diagnosis challenges through advanced optical systems and artificial intelligence methodologies. Additionally, she is committed to developing physical priors-informed AI approaches. Her research has been published in Communications Engineering, ACS Photonics, APL Photonics, Journal of Physics: Photonics, Advanced Photonics Research, Optics Express. She has received the Golden Prize in the Great Bay STEM Excellence Award 2022, 1973 EEE Graduates 50th Anniversary Sustainability/Innovation Prize, HKU, Silver Prize in International Invention Exhibition Geneva, 2024, second prize in 7th and 6th Hong Kong Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, Golden Prize in International Invention Innovation Competition in Canada(iCAN) 2023, shortlist paper in The HKIE Outstanding Paper Award for Young Engineers / Researchers 2022, and awardee of Top 100 (over 3000+) project in The Prototypes of Humanity Exhibition. She received the Research Postgraduate Scholarship from HKU, Chinese National Scholarship, the Pacemaker to Merit Student, and 3 times Top-grade Special Class Scholarship (1%) in SWJTU.
