Sport AI Lab received a HKICT Award (Smart Living) for the Smart Swimming Pool Project

December 03, 2021

Dr. Wilton Fok and the researchers in the Sport Artificial Intelligent Lab received the HK Information and Communication Technology Award (Smart Living) for their project Smart Swimming Pool. The core team members include Carol Chen, Daniel Zhang, Andy Kong and Henry Yau.

Smart swimming pool applies AI technology for drowning detection and swimmer performance analysis. AI analyses swimmers image and detect their skeletons. Alarm will be triggered when the probability of drowning is high so that safe guard can take immediate action. Swimmer performance analysis helps coach to analyze the key points such as head, shoulder, wrist, knee, ankle of the swimmer, record and analyze their posture from jump start, accelerate to finish. The system also calculates the frequency and amplitude of each stroke and provide more data for the coach to evaluate the performance. This project is funded by the Innovation & Technology Fund for Better Living and the technology is licensed to a HK Univisual Technology Ltd., one of the TSSSU company (Technology Start-up Support Scheme for University)
