On December 14, 2024, students from four local secondary schools (Chiu Lut Sau Memorial Secondary School, CCC Fong Yun Wah Secondary School, ELCHK Lutheran Academy, and Tsung Tsin College) participated in the inter-school competition titled “Power & Cheer: Innovative Christmas Tree Design Competition”, which was held in CB-102, the newly renovated Undergraduate Teaching Lab. Building on the knowledge and skills gained in the previous hands-on training workshop, students are inspired and motivated to design and construct a smart Christmas Tree decorated with wirelessly powered mini-LEDs. Bonus points will be given to more elegant designs such as the incorporation of blinking effects of different-coloured LEDs, special measures to make the wireless coils less visible and yet maintain sufficient energy transfer to the LEDs, etc. In this competition, Dr. Vincent Tam, Dr. Victor Lee and Dr. Albert Lee served as judges. Each team was given an opportunity to present their works to the judges, which was followed by a short Q&A. This event concluded with an award presentation ceremony. In particular, we are pleased to announce that the team representing ELCHK Lutheran Academy received the Champion Award. Last but not least, our special thanks go to the Faculty of Engineering for sponsoring this activity under the Dean’s Fund for Outreach to Secondary School. We would also like to extend our most sincere thanks to all of the support from the EEE Department alongside Mr. Jack Pang, Vice Principal of ELCHK-LA for co-organizing this outreach activity.
