Dr Evan Y. Peng of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering and Department of Computer Science received IEEE VR 2023 VGTC Virtual Reality Significant New Researcher Award in recognition of his research enabling new computational near-eye displays.

The 2023 IEEE VGTC Virtual Reality Significant New Researcher Award goes to Professor Yifan “Evan” Peng of the University of Hong Kong, in recognition of his research enabling new computational near-eye displays. His work leverages advances in AI to bridge the gap between devices and algorithms, with the potential to revolutionize cameras, displays, and wearable computing. Dr. Peng and colleagues have advanced holographic displays to unprecedented levels of visual quality and used the unique nature of holographic imaging to unlock new form factors for near-eye displays. His work has produced many high-profile publications and received numerous accolades within and beyond the field of virtual reality.
