William Mong Distinguished Lecture “Decarbonise Energy Systems”

The Faculty of Engineering at The University of Hong Kong (HKU) successfully hosted the William Mong Distinguished Lecture titled “Decarbonising Our Energy Systems” on February 6, 2026. The lecture was coordinated by Professor Victor Li, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Professor Steven Low from the California Institute of Technology delivered the lecture “Decarbonise Our Energy Systems”, highlighting the urgent need to electrify transportation and generate electricity from renewable sources. He discussed the technical and economic hurdles of energy transition, while sharing insights from his own pioneering work in smart grids and optimal power flow.

Professor Low emphasized that energy transition is not only a scientific and engineering challenge but also a societal one, requiring sustained global collaboration. The session sparked meaningful dialogue among attendees.
